Ever wondered what it’s like contributing to the development of Japan's largest marketplace app with over 100 million downloads worldwide? Join us at our Global Backend Engineers Meetup on May 16th to hear directly from Mercari’s backend engineers about their daily work, exciting new projects, and Mercari’s global initiatives.

For this drink meetup we will be welcoming software engineer Tony Huang to share his experience of joining Mercari directly from Taiwan and his work in the UX team. We have also invited Sota Sugiura to discuss the company’s engineering technology and life as a backend engineer at Mercari. There will also be a Q&A session as well as plenty of free time to hear more from our talented engineers.

Tony Huang

Tony is a backend engineer from Taiwan. After studying at National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) in Hsinchu, Taiwan, majoring in computer science, Tony came to Japan and joined Mercari in August of 2017. Sota Sugiura

Sota joined Mercari in January of 2017. After working in the US team and the JP Mercari Channel team, he recently joined a new project team for the JP Mercari app. Sota’s main contributions to the company are through backend engineering, but he is very interested in frontend engineering and secretly commits to the frontend repository from time to time. Sota enjoys listening to music and going to hot springs.
